Supreme Court

 

After watching the video about the history of the supreme court I was intrigued to read the article to find out more. In 8th grade I took a trip to Washington D.C. and I saw the Supreme Court but I did not take in the importance of it. Together the article and video allowed me to see how the supreme court is very important in maintaining how the country is. The supreme court has the position as the highest level of court in the country and it also leads the judicial branch of the US government. There are a total of nine supreme court justices who serve their position until they choose not to or they pass away. They also have the possibility of being impeached during their time as a justice. It is just as rare to be elected as a supreme court justice as it is to be struck by lightning. 

Now, what the Supreme court does is another interesting fact. They handle the highest cases that come through the system. They get about 7,000 cases per year but they have such limited time with only 9 justices to handle these cases and they will only take on about 100 cases a year. The most important takeaway I got was learning about the actual process of the supreme court. During the trial hearings, there are lawyers on each side and each case ends with the justices voting on the case. I learned that only one justice writes the legal description of the voting. Then justices are given the opportunity to release personal opinions. Once all of this is done and there is a majority in their voting the results are posted.

The supreme court has taken a big part in shaping America and its history through many very popular cases and has helped so many generations continuously respect their constitutional rights. By learning more about the supreme court I feel as if I better understand all of the cases and how the justices make decisions on these cases. I now think that it is important for more Americans to learn about how the Supreme Court works so that these cases are better understood. 

Privacy Online & Off

Once I watched all the different speakers on the TED talks it made me notice how there isn't much privacy on the internet. If it weren't for these TED talks I would've never known that this was such a problem. I feel as if more people should be educated on this subject just so people are aware of these issues. The internet and social media are so big in this generation which is why it is so important for people to be educated on a  topic like this. Each and every time we are just relaxing and having a conversation with your friends, whichever device you are currently using can hear you and gather all the information that you are saying. This is something that can be very alarming for people to find out, hence why I think this matter should be discussed more often. Have you ever noticed how you're talking about something with your friends and the next minute an advertisement pops up for the same thing you were just discussing? This just proves that technology is always listening to you and all the different things you are saying. 

Having online privacy is essential for everyone. There are many things that people want to keep to themselves and have privacy over.  Many claim that the government should do something about this issue. There are many things that could be in place and done to help these ongoing issues. Although, before you start using the internet and social media, people need to realize everything is connected to your digital footprint. Every post whether you delete it or not is always up on your footprint. This is something that many people forget before they post something online. All in all, many people need to be more cautious of what they post online due to the fact that there is such a lack of privacy when online.  

My 5 News Sources and Information

 1. News App- I continuously use the News app that comes with the I phone to check on many different updates about what is going on in the world. There are constant notifications that pop up on your phone so you can always see what is going on. Once I see a news notification pop up I always have the sudden urge to click on it and to read more about what is going on in the world. It has taught me many new things and kept me up to date learning about what is going on around me and in the world. 

2. Instagram- Instagram is known as a very popular social media platform in this generation. I personally tend to get a lot of different news updates throughout this app. There are many different accounts for different news channels that I follow to help keep me up to date. Sometimes I don't have the time to sit down and watch the news, hence why instagram helps me figure out what is going on in the world because there are many short clips of the news that allow me to watch and get a better understanding of what is going on in the world and keeping me up to date.

3. Facebook- Another social media platform that has helped me learn about the news is Facebook. There are many times I am scrolling on Facebook and I see many posts from news channels posting different important news updates that I am eager to read about. Also many adults tend to use Facebook which therefore allows them to repost different news posts which I also see on my feed when searching. This is a great way to keep me up to date since there are so many different people reposting the news as well as news channels posting on their social media accounts. 

4. Fox News-  The Fox News Channel has always been a news channel I tend to watch. I like watching the news on this channel because they always give so much information about whats going on in the world and make  you aware of  about many different events going on in the world. This allows you to have more of an understanding of whats going on in the world as well as hearing many different people speak on their beliefs and different current events going on. 

5. Youtube- Lastly, YouTube is a great quick and easy source to catch up on a lot of information about current events. On YouTube there is basically videos of most things that occur on a day to day basis since anyone can upload them. I like learning about different things going on I the world from YouTube since it is so easy to type in direct names of current events and have multiple different videos and many different opinions of different people behind each video.
